Horcos Estoilaigle

"To see as well as I is a blessing and a curse."

Raised in Ishgard among the lowborn society, Horcos' life was far from perfect, but he made do, growing up with his mother and learning the ways of the world through her. He learned of her gift, and how it was also passed along to him, but one day, this gift then foretold her of the coming Calamity. In pleading towards Ishgard, she begged for the people to stand alongside the free peoples of Eorzea in preventing it and the lives it would take, but her cries were to fall on deaf ears, and the lives lost in the eternal winter that was to follow, alongside the increasing attacks from the horde had pushed her to her end.

Now with his mother lost and being alone at home, Horcos had only his father to turn to, a third-born among one of the smaller highborn houses, and the hatred between each other only grew over the years, especially upon news of his mother's death. In a vain attempt to get favour with his father, Horcos had taken to archery and the lance, seeking to make a name for himself in the Dragonsong War and earn his place. But there was no war by the time he was given a place to stand in the fight, only cleaning up, and his father's continued berating convinced him that there was no purpose trying to appease others. Thus, he set off for Gridania, to join the adventurers of a more peaceful land.

Personality

"I will give it to you straight and true, like always."

Raised by stubbornness throughout society, some of that has passed on to the young fighter. Direct and to the point, Horcos does not take the polite route if it is unnecessary, and will speak his mind as he sees what is before him, being disillusioned by the niceties of the highborn and the underhanded remarks of the lowborn, finding almost no value in either while learning and growing up. In doing so, he can often come off as solitary, perhaps even preferring to act independently, even when trained to work among groups and alongside comrades in arms.

Not that he fails to have a heart, however. He does lean more courteously towards the fairer gender where he can and, for those who manage to prove themselves worthy of friendship, is fully capable of working alongside others, even coming to their aid in their time of need. He is not one to pry, however, and does not get himself involved in matters not of his concern, knowing all too well that he, too, has some secrets he won't dare share himself for fear of what may become of him and those around him if he were to reveal them, his family curse in his eyes.

Combat & Skills

"I have tolerated this dithering for long enough!"

Trained in use of the bow and the spear, Horcos is a versatile fighter on the field, able to defend the line from the back or hold the line from the front. Though no expert in either capacity, he has handled himself exceptionally well in routine exercises, giving him the moniker of "Estoilaigle" - The Eagle's Eye - for his precision and the direct fighting style behind either tool at his disposal, a name he has since adopted for a surname in Eorzea. If anything holds him back from excelling at either talent, it is most likely his aggression, a problem that - while praising the Fury in the act itself - leaves him blinded to anything but what is in front of him, leaving him open from either side and from behind when in the thick of combat, a flaw he has yet to quell.

Beyond this talent, however, lies a third. Though it is rare for him to give hints to it outright, he tends to have a habit of twitching his right eye before every thrust, before every shot, and in some cases, people have spoken in hushed whispers about some healing talent, though it is not anything like the conjury powers of the Twelveswood. Whatever power it is will continue to remain a mystery if Horcos has anything to say on it.
